FEST's Mission:

To greatly accelerate development of the field of financing systemic transformation to address today's social equality, economic and environmental crises.

You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

FEST's Pathway Forward

For FEST to create the conditions for the Field of FST to fulfil it's purpose, it must overcome the challenges described in in THIS SECTION – crossing the "Chasm" of system redesign. To do this, the FEST community has created a Theory of Transformational Change (ToTC), which sets out to initiate working groups, collaborative experiments, a 3-5 year pathway for the field's decelopment, and a capable foundational community committed to the pathway.

FEST's ToTC was co-developed through a Three Horizons process. The First Horizon is the current reality, the Third the desired future, and the Second the Transformation System between the two – all those who are working, both independently and collectively, to advance the field of FST. FEST's ToTC is based upon the Second Horizon, with a core question being "how can development of the field of financing systemic transformation be greatly accelerated". It is crucial that a ToTC is guided by the current reality and a collectively owned future vision.

FEST's ToTC is represented in the diagram below. Each of the "boxes" are subsystems that require action to fully develop the field. FEST is organized around these subsystems as Groups that act independently but are well-connected to the whole.

"Click" the boxes for more information on each subsystem's work and trajectory.

The ToTC may apprear complex. However, complexity is a key characteristic of transformation. The ToTC aims to be comprehensive, reflecting that transformation efforts are often insufficient because they do not consider significant factors.

Each subsystem has its own development trajectory, but will also apply its knowledge and capacity on particular "cases" in support of supporting and creating FST Ecosystems.

The activities represented within the ToTC are the system transformation.

Assumptions:

  1. The ToTC will change in response to learning and field evaluation.
  2. The complexity of the whole can be managed.
  3. Groups will be self-led and organized.
  4. Funding will be raised for FEST as a whole, and Groups can become self-funded.
  5. FEST as a change infrastructure will continue to attract field support and participation of FST leading practitioners and thought leaders.
  6. The bridge will be made between the entreprenuers that dominate FEST currently and the legacy organizations in the FST field.

The Big Picture view:

The following diagram is illustration of FEST's overall vision – emerging from the demands of the current system, and delivering on its transformational purpose.

FEST 3-5 year goals

With the pathway outlined above as a guide, the following outcomes are proposed over 3-5 years:

  1. A well-recognized, well supported FST field.
  2. A powerful ecosystem that is propelling forward the field's on-going evolution.
  3. A new evolving narrating shaping the direction of the field, norms and behaviours.
  4. A network with the requisite diversity, competency, entrepreneurial drive and commitment to accelerating the FST field.
  5. A fundamental contribution to addressing the urgent crises of our day, by creating the foundation for financing their transformation.
